Kate Seale Smith

Artistic Director, Public Relations, Pre-Ballet & Ballet Faculty

Kate was a company member of ADT 1986-1994 and professional dancer with ADT 1998-2011. Kate received a scholarship and attended the first American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive in NYC. She attended the Joffrey Ballet School on a full scholarship for 3 summers, as well as the Boston Ballet School. She was a Dance Major at the University of Alabama, and one of the first Apprentices for the Alabama Ballet under the direction of Wes Chapman (1996-1998).

 

Her roles include Giselle in Giselle, Act I; Cinderella, Summer Fairy, Ugly Stepsister in Leslie Jane Pessemeir's Cinderella; Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, Act I; Le Corsaire Pas de Deux; Spring Waters; George Balanchine's Valse Fantaisie, Serenade, La Source and Stars and Stripes; the lead in Alan Hineline's 18 minutes, 5 seconds and Sans Souci with Charles Askegard (American Ballet Theatre dancer); Nikiya in La Bayadere, Act I; Odette and Big Swans’ in Swan Lake, Act II; Swanhilda in Coppelia, Act I; Dwight Rhoden's (Complexions Contemporary Ballet) Set Rise Fall staged by Sabra Perry among many other roles.

 

Kate specializes in teaching dance to our youngest (ages 3-8) students as well as our advanced and intermediate students.

 

Kate is the daughter of the late Turner and Kitty Seale, wife of Robby Smith, and proud mother of Bennett (18), Chapman (16), Turner (6), and step-daughter Brooke (22).
