Alabama Dance Theatre & Regional Dance America/Southeast

Alabama Dance Theatre (ADT) has been a proud performing member of Regional Dance America/Southeast (RDA/SE) since 1989 and was awarded Honor Company status in 1992, a distinction recognizing companies that consistently demonstrate the highest level of artistry and are frequently selected to perform in Gala showcases.

About Regional Dance America/Southeast (RDA/SE)

RDA/SE is one of four divisions of Regional Dance America (RDA), a national organization that supports over 85 companies and 3,000 dancers across the country. The organization promotes artistic growth by offering training, scholarships, awards, and performance opportunities, while giving regional companies national recognition.   Each spring, RDA member companies gather for three-day Festivals hosted by a regional company. These events bring together:

  • Over 1,500 dancers from 70 companies

  • 300 parents, 100 directors and staff, and nearly 100 faculty and musicians

  • World-class instructors for daily classes in ballet, jazz, modern, pointe, pas de deux, and more

  • Seminars on topics like nutrition, injury prevention, theatrical makeup, and audition prep

  • College roundtables and scholarship auditions with representatives from top training programs

  • Evening performances featuring selected works from member companies

The festival season begins in early spring when RDA’s expert adjudicators tour the region to review company works and provide valuable feedback. Selected works are programmed for festival performances, offering dancers the opportunity to perform at a high level and be seen by professional recruiters and college programs.

ADT’s Festival History & Involvement

  • Honor Company since 1992, reflecting sustained excellence

  • Co-hosted the RDA/SE Festival in Montgomery in 2009, 2011, 2014, and 2018

  • Performed at national festivals in:

    • Houston, TX (1997)

    • Pittsburgh, PA (2007)

    • Montreal, Canada (2012)

  • Selected in 2009 to represent RDA/SE at the International Ballet Competition in 2010

Looking Ahead

ADT is excited to participate in the upcoming RDA/SE Festival in Memphis, TN, May 1–3, 2025, continuing its tradition of excellence and commitment to the growth of young dancers.
